Santhi Cement

Santhi Cement is based at 64, Venkatarangam Street in Triplicane. If you know the area, you know how tight those streets can be. We are right in the thick of it. Since we deal with cement, there is always a fine layer of grey dust on everything in the shop. We try to sweep it out, but it’s a losing battle with the bags coming in and out all the time. It’s a small storefront, and we have to be very careful about how we stack the bags so they don't block the way. Most of our customers are from right here in the neighborhood, doing small repairs or building things. We spend a lot of time talking to people who walk in off the street. It’s a very local feel, and we know many of our regulars by name. The traffic on Venkatarangam Street is always a bit of a mess, especially when a truck arrives to drop off a new load. We have to work fast to get the bags inside so we don't block the road for too long. It’s hard work on the back, and we usually go home feeling it. But it’s what we do. We don't have a computer for the accounts, just a big ledger where we write everything down by hand. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us here in Triplicane. We just stay busy and keep the shelves full.
