Simmam Leathers

Simmam Leathers is our small operation located at No. 4/ 6 on Alandur Road in Saidapet. It’s a busy part of the city, and the road stays pretty active throughout the day. Our place isn't very large, so we have to use every bit of space we have for the leather goods. You can usually smell the leather as soon as you step inside. It’s a strong, earthy scent that lingers on your clothes long after you leave. We spend most of our time at the workbenches. The floors are often covered in small offcuts and bits of thread. It’s not the cleanest environment, but that is the nature of working with leather. We don't have a fancy cooling system, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum all day to keep the air moving. Saidapet is a good location for us because it’s central, even if the traffic can be a nightmare sometimes. We’ve been at this address for a good while now. We know most of the other shop owners on this stretch of Alandur Road. We just keep our heads down and focus on the pieces we are making. Each day is pretty much the same: checking the hides, cutting the patterns, and finishing the orders. It’s hard work on the hands, but it’s what we know how to do. We don't try to make it look like something it isn't; it's just a workshop where we work with our hands every day.
