Hamid Leathers

You can find us at No. 21 Thirumalaiappan Street. We are in unit number 4 of Rubhi Palace, which is right near the Puraswakam area. It’s a busy part of the city, and the streets can be a bit of a maze if you aren’t used to them. Hamid Leathers is a small operation, really. We don't have a lot of extra space, so every corner is used for something. There are stacks of leather everywhere you look. Working in Puraswakam means you are always around other businesses and people. It’s never quiet. We spend our days sorting through materials and handling orders. The building, Rubhi Palace, isn’t actually a palace; it’s just a regular commercial building with lots of small units like ours. We’ve got a few desks and a lot of work tables. The windows don’t let in much light, so we rely on the overhead tubes. We don’t do any fancy advertising. Most people find us just by knowing where we are. We drink a lot of coffee to stay sharp. It’s the kind of place where you get your hands dirty every single day. We don’t have a mission statement or anything like that. We just show up, do the work, and go home to our families. It’s a basic life but it works for us. The stairs are narrow and the hallway is often filled with boxes, but we manage just fine.
