Our office is on South West Boag Road in T Nagar. The address can be a bit confusing because it has an old number, 88/1, and a new number, 105. People sometimes get lost trying to find us, but we’ve been here so long that most the local couriers know exactly where we are. T Nagar is always crowded and noisy, but our street is a little tucked away from the main shopping chaos. Inside, the place smells like leather all the time. We have rolls of it and samples scattered across every available surface. We do leather exports, so a lot of our time is spent on the phone or computer dealing with shipping documents and customs. It’s a lot of sitting and typing, interrupted by the occasional inspection of a new batch of hides. The fans are always on full blast to deal with the Chennai heat. We have a small pantry where we make tea, and that’s usually where we gather to complain about the traffic or the weather. It’s a small team here, and we don't have any formal hierarchy. We all just do what needs to be done to get the containers filled and sent off to the port. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know how to do well. Most of us have been here for over ten years now so we are like a small family.
