Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College

Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College is situated on P.S. Sivaswamy Salai in the Mylapore area of Chennai. If you know Mylapore, you know it is full of old buildings and very narrow streets that get quite crowded during the festival seasons. Our college has been around for a long time, and the building reflects that history. It is not like those new modern glass buildings you see in the IT parks. It is solid and has a bit of an old-world feel to it. Students come here from all over Chennai, often taking the bus or the local train and then walking the rest of the way in the heat. It gets very hot here in the summer, but the classrooms are okay once the fans start spinning. We have a lot of tradition here, and the atmosphere is usually quite serious when it comes to studies. You will see students sitting under the trees or standing in the corridors talking between their lectures. We don't have a lot of flashy stuff, just the basics like labs and a library where it is actually quiet enough to read. Being in a place like 600004 means we are right in the middle of everything, with shops and temples just a short walk away. It is a busy life for the staff and the boys who study here, but we are used to the pace of this part of Tamil Nadu.
