Down on Thamarai Street in Anna Nagar, you’ll find our little setup at 14/2. We deal with agricultural supplies and seeds, mostly for the people who still have plots or gardens around the edge of the city. It’s a busy neighborhood, so parking is always a bit of a nightmare near the shop front. We have bags of seeds and different tools stacked up against the walls inside. It’s not the most organized place in the world, but we know where everything is kept. My uncle started this, and I’ve been helping out since I was a teenager. We get a lot of regulars who come in just to see what’s new for the planting season or to ask for a bit of advice on their crops. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We don’t do any big advertising; word of mouth is usually enough for us to stay busy. Sometimes we’re out back unloading a shipment, so you might have to shout to get our attention. We handle a lot of different things, from small packets of vegetable seeds to larger bags of fertilizer. It’s a practical business for practical people. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. We just like seeds and plants and helping folks grow a bit of their own food. It’s a good way to spend the day, even if my hands are always a bit dirty from the soil and sacks.
