Lalitha Garments

Down in Karambakkam, specifically in Mahalakshmi Nagar, you’ll find our little spot at No. 3/ 1. Lalitha Garments is basically a family run thing where we spend most of our waking hours. The Porur area gets quite dusty with all the traffic passing through, so we are constantly dusting the shelves and the plastic covers on the shirts. We have been here for some years and most of the regulars who walk through the door are like friends now. We sell mostly basic wear that people need for going to work or just staying at home. The shop isn't fancy with bright glass displays or anything like that. We use simple wooden racks we got made by a local guy down the street. My cousin helps out on the weekends when things get a bit hectic with the local crowds. We usually have the radio playing some old songs in the background to keep things lively during the slow afternoon hours when it's too hot to do much. Sometimes the delivery guys bring the wrong colors or sizes and we have to spend hours sorting it out over the phone. It’s just part of the job. The street outside is narrow, so parking is always a headache for anyone visiting us. We just tell people to park a bit further down near the main road. We open early because that's when the neighborhood is most active. It’s a simple life running a shop here.
