Down here in Vadapalani, specifically on 9th Street in Kumaran Colony, is where Portia Exports does its thing. We are at No. 16, which is a building that has seen plenty of seasons. The neighborhood is usually bustling with people going about their morning errands, and we are right in the middle of it. Our rooms are packed with items waiting to be sent out to places far away. It’s funny to think that stuff sitting on our floor today will be in a different country next month. We have a few desks pushed together and shelves that are probably holding a bit too much weight. The fans hum all day long to keep the Vadapalani heat at bay, though it doesn't always work that well. Our team is small, and we all end up doing a bit of everything, from answering emails to taping up heavy cardboard boxes. We don’t really do fancy presentations or anything like that. If someone comes by, they’ll see us in our regular clothes, maybe arguing a bit about a shipping schedule or looking for a lost roll of tape. It’s a grounded kind of life. We’ve been part of this colony for a while, and the neighbors know us by the sound of the delivery trucks backing in. It’s just a regular workplace where we try to get the job done without too much fuss and stay out of the sun.
