Finding us isn't too hard if you know No. -28/33-Buddi Shahib St. over in Mascanchavadi. Pioneer Leather Crafts is right there on that narrow street where things are always a bit cramped. We have stalls and shops all around us, so there is never a quiet moment during the day. The morning starts with the sound of shutters opening up and down the lane. We drag the heavy bags of leather inside and start sorting through them. It is a lot of manual work. My hands are usually stained by the end of the shift. We don’t have a big marketing team or a fancy website. Most people just know us because we’ve been on Buddi Shahib St. for years. We make all sorts of things, mostly focusing on the craft side of leather. You have to be patient with this kind of work. If you rush, you make mistakes, and then you have to start all over again. We eat lunch together in the small back room. Someone usually brings something from home to share. It is a good way to take a break from the dust and the noise outside. By the time we lock up in the evening, we are tired, but it’s a good kind of tired. Mascanchavadi is a real place with real people working hard, and we are just a small part of that every day.
