Rao Leather Exports

Our warehouse and workspace are located at Plot No. 214 and 215 in Burma Colony. This is right off Rajiv Gandhi Salai in the Perungudi area. It’s an interesting spot because you have all these modern IT buildings nearby, but our street feels a bit more old-fashioned and industrial. At Rao Leather Exports, you can always smell the leather as soon as you walk through the gate. It’s a very distinct scent that stays on your clothes even after you leave. We spend our days sorting through hides and checking for any marks or scratches. It takes a lot of space to spread out the leather pieces, so the tables are quite large and heavy. We have a few guys who have been cutting leather for twenty years, and they can do it almost with their eyes closed. We don't have a glossy catalog or a showroom. Most of our work is done in the back where the light is better for seeing the texture of the skins. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty with all the scrap pieces falling on the floor. We just sweep it up at the end of the day and start over the next morning. It’s a practical business, and we don't try to make it sound more complicated than it is. We just deal with leather and make sure it’s ready for the next step.
