Arun Leather Exports is located at 1 Swaminatha Gramani Street in Periamet. If you’ve ever been to this part of town, you know it’s the center for the leather trade. We’ve been in this street for a long time, and we know almost everyone on the block. Our work is mainly about sorting through leather hides and getting them ready for export. It’s not the cleanest job in the world. Leather has a very strong smell, and the hides can be heavy to move around. We spend our hours checking the quality of each piece. We look for any flaws or marks that might be a problem. Our shop is in an old building with high ceilings, which helps a bit with the air. We don’t have a fancy website or a sales team. We just deal with our clients directly over the phone or through messages. It’s a very practical business. We focus on the product and making sure it gets packed properly so it doesn't get damaged on the way to the port. Sometimes the street gets so crowded with carts and bikes that it’s hard to move anything, but we’re used to it. We don't make any big promises; we just do our best to send out good leather. It’s what our family has done for a while now, and we just keep the tradition going.
