Ayfa Skins

Ayfa Skins is located right on 6 Thoopai Street in Periamet. If you’ve ever walked through this part of town, you know it smells like leather and work. We’ve been here for a good while, dealing with skins every day. It’s heavy work, and our hands usually show it by the end of the shift. The shop isn't much to look at from the outside, just a regular building among many others on this narrow street. We spend most of our time grading the skins and making sure they are stored right so they don't get ruined by the humidity. The weather here in Chennai can be tough on the materials if you aren't careful. There’s always a truck unloading something nearby, making it a bit loud during the day. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy lobby. If you come by, you’ll likely find us in the back working. Sometimes we have to move piles of stock around just to make space for a visitor to sit down. It’s a bit messy, but that’s the nature of working with raw skins. We get customers from all over who know the kind of stuff we keep. We don’t really spend money on fancy signs or flyers. People just know where we are. It’s a family-run kind of thing, and we take it one day at a time. The street gets muddy when it rains, but the work doesn't stop. We just keep the lights on and keep going until the sun goes down.
