If you’ve ever walked down Perianna Maistry Street in Periamet, you know the smell of leather is everywhere. Our place at No. 64/47 is right in the thick of it. It’s an old building, and the stairs are a bit steep, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We spend our mornings sorting through different hides, looking at the grain and the thickness. Some days the shipment comes in late and everything gets pushed back, which is just part of the routine here. It’s a bit messy with all the offcuts and tools lying around on the benches. We aren’t big on decorating the place; we just need enough light to see what we’re doing. Zaib Leathers has been part of this street for a long time. People around here know us by name, and we know most of the other shop owners too. It’s a tight community in Periamet. Sometimes we just stand at the door for a minute to watch the rickshaws go by. The work is hard on the hands and you end up with stains that don't wash off easily. We don't mind though. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. Usually, by the time we lock up at night, we're pretty tired, but there's a certain satisfaction in seeing the stacks of finished goods ready to go out. We just keep the lights on and keep moving through the leather piles.
