We are based at Old No 97 on New Street right in the heart of Parrys. If you know Chennai, you know how hectic Parrys can be. It is full of narrow streets and people rushing everywhere. Our office fits right into that chaos. It’s an old building, but it has a lot of character. We do impex work here, which means we are always surrounded by files and ledgers. The fans hum all day to keep the heat away while we check the inventory. Being in Parrys means everything is close by, but it also means it is very noisy. Shouting vendors and the horns of motorcycles outside our window are just part of the background. There is no reception desk or anything like that. You just walk in and see everyone working. It is a very hands-on kind of business. Much of the time is spent making sure the cargo is moved correctly from the port. It’s a lot of legwork. We’ve been here long enough that the crowd isn't even noticed anymore. The focus is on getting the exports and imports handled. We aren't trying to be the biggest company, just one that stays in its lane. The walls are lined with old shelves and there’s usually a pot of tea somewhere. That’s just how things operate at Smart Impex Chennai. It’s plain and simple work.
