R. G. S. Silks

Down here at R. G. S. Silks, things are usually pretty steady. We are located at 151 Indira Gandhi Street in Anna Nagar, which is in the Pammal area. It’s a residential neighborhood mostly, so it's a bit quieter than the main markets, but people still find their way to us. We deal with silks, as you might guess from the name. The shelves are filled with different rolls and folded pieces. It's a lot of manual work, checking the fabric and making sure everything is counted right. We’ve been at this address for some time. The shop isn't huge, but it's enough for what we do. You’ll often see us standing out front if the weather is nice, just taking a break from the indoor lights. Anna Nagar is a good place to be, and our neighbors on Indira Gandhi Street are friendly enough. We don’t have a big corporate team or anything. It’s just us, the fabric, and the customers who walk through the door. Sometimes we have a lot of work and other times it’s a bit slow, but that’s just how the silk trade goes. We keep our records in big ledgers and try to keep track of what’s coming in and what’s going out. It’s simple work, really. Just a local shop in Pammal doing what we know how to do, which is handling cloth. It’s what we’ve done for a long time and it works for us.
