Eswari Leathers

We are located in the Pammal area of Chrompet. Eswari Leathers has been around for a bit, and if you know this part of Chennai, you know it’s the place for leather. The smell of the hides is the first thing you notice when you walk into our workspace. It’s a strong, earthy scent that you never really get out of your clothes. We work with various types of leather, and a lot of the job involves sitting at heavy-duty machines or using hand tools to trim the edges. It’s tough on the hands and the back, but it is what we do. The workshop isn't particularly cool or quiet. The fans just push the warm air around, and the sound of the leather being punched or stitched is constant. We don't have a fancy showroom. Usually, what we have is just stacked up on shelves or sitting in crates ready to be shipped. We deal with suppliers and buyers in a very direct way, without any polished sales pitches. It’s just about the material and the work put into it. Sometimes a batch of leather doesn't look quite right, and we have to figure out how to work around the marks or scars on the skin. It’s a practical, messy business, and we are just some regular people trying to make a living in the leather trade.
