Padma Cement Centre

We started Padma Cement Centre over on Palamurukan Koil Street because there was a lot of building going on in Porur. It’s a narrow street, especially near 2nd Street, so getting the big trucks in can be a real headache sometimes. We spend most of our time moving bags around and keeping the floor dry. Cement is heavy work and gets everywhere. My shirt is usually covered in grey dust by noon. We deal with local contractors and people just trying to fix up their own homes. We aren't a big corporation, just a small place with a few of us working. The phone rings a lot with people asking about prices or when the next load is coming in. Sometimes the delivery is late because of the traffic in Chennai, which is just how it goes. We try to be fair with everyone who walks through the door. It’s a lot of physical labor, but it keeps us busy. The shop isn't much to look at, just stacks of bags and a desk for the paperwork. We've been in this spot for years now. People know us as the place near the temple street. We don't do fancy advertising, just word of mouth mostly. If someone needs a few bags for a small job, we help them load it up. That's about it really. We aren't perfect, but we get the job done for the neighbors.
