About Shriram Fabrics – Fashion & Trends in Chennai
Old Washermanpet is a place with a lot of history in the textile trade. Shriram Fabrics is tucked away on Sanjeevrayan Koind Street. It’s one of those narrow streets where everyone knows everyone. The shop is filled from floor to ceiling with rolls of cloth. Sometimes it’s hard to even walk through the aisles without bumping into something. We’ve been here for years, dealing with all kinds of fabrics. People come in looking for specific weaves or colors, and we do our best to find it in the stacks. It’s dusty work, and our clothes usually have lint on them by noon. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just open the doors and see who comes by. The building is old and has its quirks, like the door that sticks when it rains. We don't mind. It’s home to us. Usually, there’s a stack of fabric waiting to be measured and cut. We use old scissors that have been sharpened a hundred times. It’s a simple way of living. We talk to the neighbors, drink tea, and sell fabric. It’s not about being the biggest, just about being here every day and doing what we know how to do. The street is always noisy with carts and scooters, but inside, we just focus on the cloth and the customers who have been coming for years.
