Rehane

We have been running things out of 6 Knk Road in the Shams Garden area of Nungambakkam for a good few years now. If you know Chennai, you know KNK Road is pretty busy and full of energy. Our space is just a regular building where we spend most of our waking hours. It is usually a bit of a mess, to be honest. There are rolls of fabric leaning against the walls and scissors left on almost every flat surface. We don't have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy things for us. It’s just us here, looking at designs and trying to make sure the stitching is straight. The afternoons can get really humid, so we usually have the windows open, even if the traffic noise from Nungambakkam comes right inside. I usually spend my mornings checking on what needs to be finished first. Sometimes we have a lot of people coming in and other days it is just us and the sewing machines. We don't follow any corporate rules or have big meetings. We just talk over tea about what we are working on that day. It is a bit chaotic sometimes when a shipment arrives and we have nowhere to put it, but we manage. Most of our furniture is old and the floor is scuffed from moving racks around. It feels like a real workshop because that is exactly what it is. We just focus on the clothes and try to stay organized.
