Nethaji Vidhyalayam

Down on S.Kolathur Main Road in Kovilambakkam, you’ll find Nethaji Vidhyalayam at No:5/394 in Rajiv Nagar. It’s a local school that’s been part of this community for quite a while now. The road outside can get a bit messy when it rains, but the kids don't seem to mind much. We start the day early, getting the gates open and making sure the classrooms are swept. It’s a simple setup, with a courtyard where everyone gathers. We aren't one of those expensive international schools; we’re just a neighborhood place where local families send their children. You can hear the sounds of Rajiv Nagar all day—the street vendors, the cars, and people going about their business. We spend our time checking attendance, looking over lessons, and making sure the building is in good shape. Sometimes the paint peels a bit or a fan stops working, and we have to get someone in to fix it. It’s a lot of work to keep a school running, but it’s what we do. We know the parents and we know the kids by their first names. It feels like a small world inside these walls. We’re just trying to provide a decent place for the kids in Kovilambakkam to spend their day and learn something useful without making a big fuss about it. We just keep the bells ringing on time.
