Nataraja Timber Trading Corporation

Down in Royapuram, you’ll find us at 12/29 on M S Koil Street. We go by Nataraja Timber Trading Corporation, though that’s a bit of a mouthful. Most people just know us as the timber guys on the corner. The smell of wood is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We have logs and cut boards stacked up all over the place. It’s a heavy job, moving timber around. Our clothes usually have sawdust on them, and we’re always careful about splinters. M S Koil Street is a lively place with plenty of other shops and people walking around. The air from the sea isn't too far away, being in Royapuram, but mostly we just smell the cedar and teak. We use old saws and measuring tapes that have seen better days. The floor is usually covered in wood shavings by the end of the shift. We don't have a website or anything like that. If someone needs wood for a project, they just come by and talk to us. We’ve got a small desk where we do our paperwork, but most of our time is spent out with the stacks. It’s honest work, and it keeps us fit. We’ve been part of this street for years and seen the buildings around us change, but we keep doing the same thing. It’s noisy and messy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We just keep the saws running and the wood moving.
