Naser Tanning Co.

We have been working as Naser Tanning Co. out of this spot on P.H. Road in Kilpauk for quite some time now. The address used to be different, old number 763-B, but the building is the same one. It is a noisy place most days because that is just the way a tanning business works. There is always the sound of machines and the smell of raw hides being processed. We spend our hours sorting through skins and making sure the chemicals are doing what they are supposed to do in the vats. It is messy work and your clothes usually end up dirty by the end of the shift. We don't have a fancy reception area or anything like that because most of our space is taken up by the actual tanning equipment. The floors are usually a bit wet. We just focus on getting the leather ready and out the door so the next batch can come in. Sometimes the traffic on P.H. Road makes it hard for the trucks to get in and out, which can be frustrating when we are in a hurry. We just deal with it as it comes. It is a local operation and most of the people working here have been around for years. We know the neighbors and they know us. There isn't much to say other than we show up, do the work, and try to keep things moving along. We take our breaks together and talk about the news or what's going on in the neighborhood. It's a long day but the work is steady and it pays the bills.
