Leather Leaders

We are located at New No. 1, which used to be Old No. 57, on Adam Nagar Road in Nagalkeni, Chrompet. The address change still confuses some people, but we are in the same spot we’ve always been. Nagalkeni is a busy place for leather work and we are right in the middle of it. Our workshop is simple with a few tables and some racks for the skins. We don't spend money on fancy displays. Most people who come here know what they want already. We spend our mornings sorting through the leather that arrives. Some of it is good, some of it we can't use for certain things. It’s a lot of looking and touching the material to see if it feels right. We use heavy-duty sewing machines that make a lot of noise. The neighborhood is full of other people doing similar work, so you hear the sounds of hammers and machines all day. We keep our tools in a wooden box near the main bench. Sometimes we sit outside for a bit when the weather is nice. We don't really have a big story to tell. We just show up, do the stitching and the cutting, and go home. It’s a practical life and we are used to the rhythm of it by now. There is always more leather to be sorted tomorrow.
