We’ve been here at Plot No. 447/1 in the Ekambara Naicker Industrial Estate for a good while now. It’s a busy spot in Alapakkam, right near Porur. Mostly, we just keep our heads down and get through the jobs that come in. The shop floor gets pretty hot during the summer, but we’re used to it. My brother and I started this after working for a big firm for ten years and realized we could just do it ourselves. We have a few machines that we keep running all day. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, which is a pain, but we manage. People know where we are, Door No. 17. It isn't a fancy place with a lobby or anything like that. Just a workshop with grease on the floor and a lot of metal parts lying around. We spend most of our time dealing with measurements and fixing things that broke. Some days are slow and we just sit around drinking tea, but usually, there's a pile of work waiting. It’s a bit noisy because of the neighbors too. Everyone in this part of Porur is doing something similar. We aren't trying to change the world or anything. We just want to finish the parts on time and go home to our families. If you walk past the main gate, you’ll probably hear the lathe machines humming away. That’s just how it is here every single day.
