M. M. Lungi Company

Our shop is located at No. 130 Ramaswamy Street, which is right in the Mannady area and very close to the old Broadway Theatre. If you know Chennai, you know this part of town is always buzzing with people and vehicles. We've been here at M. M. Lungi Company for many years, focusing on a very specific kind of garment that people around here wear every day. The shop is filled with stacks of fabric in all sorts of patterns and colors. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze sometimes when a new shipment arrives. We spend a lot of our time unfolding and folding cloth, showing different styles to anyone who stops by. The heat can be a bit much in the afternoons, but we have a couple of fans that keep the air moving. Being near the theater means there’s always something happening outside, which makes the day go by faster. We aren't trying to be a high-end boutique. We just provide decent lungis to the people who need them. Most of our customers are folks from the neighborhood who have been coming to us for a long time. It’s a very traditional way of doing business, based on handshakes and knowing people’s names. We just keep things simple, stay in our spot on Ramaswamy Street, and keep the shelves stocked as best as we can.
