Madras Mannequins

Our workshop is at No. 25 A on Kadappa Road in Lakshmipuram, Kolathur. It’s a bit of a weird place if you aren't used to it because there are mannequin parts everywhere. You might see a pile of arms or some heads sitting on a shelf waiting to be painted. We’ve been here in Kolathur for quite some time. The building is just a simple shed-like structure where we do all the molding and sanding. It’s very dusty because of the fiberglass and plastic work. We don’t have a proper showroom so the mannequins just stand around the workspace. It’s quite hot during the day, especially when the machines are running. We are just a small group of workers doing this. We don't have a big marketing team or a website that we update. People find us because they need display figures for their shops and they know we are here. Sometimes we have to fix a broken limb or paint a new face on an old model. It’s a strange business but someone has to do it. We spend our days covered in dust and paint. The road outside is quiet compared to the city center which is nice. We just keep our heads down and get the figures ready for the customers. It’s just honest work.
