Loyola College

Loyola College sits on a big piece of land at No 227, Sterling Road. It is right at the junction with Nungambakkam High Road, so the traffic outside is almost always moving. Inside the gates, though, it feels a bit different. There are these old buildings and a lot of trees that have been here for a very long time. I’ve worked here for a while, and you get used to the sound of the bell and the students rushing across the grass. It isn't a quiet place by any means, especially when classes let out and everyone is heading to the canteen or the gate. The halls are tall and sometimes feel a bit drafty, but they have a lot of history in the walls. You see people from all over coming through here. Nungambakkam is a busy part of Chennai, and we are right in the thick of it. Sometimes the heat is a bit much, but the old stone stays relatively cool. We spend our days mostly keeping track of schedules and making sure everything is where it should be. It’s a lot of walking back and forth between the different blocks. You meet a lot of different characters here, from the old groundskeepers who know every tree to the young kids who are just starting out. It is a big operation, but at the end of the day, it's just a bunch of people trying to get through the term.
