Chennai Textiles

We are located at No. 10 Ramanathan Street in the Kilpauk area. Chennai Textiles has been part of this street for a long time. Kilpauk is a busy neighborhood, and our shop fits right into the mix of houses and other small businesses. Inside, the walls are lined with different kinds of cloth. We spend most of our time measuring lengths of fabric for people who come in. It’s a hands-on job, feeling the texture of the materials and helping people find the right color. The shop can get quite crowded on the weekends when people have more time to browse. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, just some ceiling fans that hum all day long. The floor is made of old tile, and it has seen a lot of feet over the years. We take deliveries through the front door, which can be a bit of a squeeze when there are customers inside. Most of the staff here have been working with textiles for years, so they know the difference between various weaves just by touch. We don't bother with big sales pitches or flashy signs. People come here because they know we have what they need on our shelves. It’s a quiet, steady kind of business. We start our day by dusting the racks and end it by folding up whatever was left out on the counters. It’s just how things go on Ramanathan Street.
