Karishma Dress

Karishma Dress is located at No-18 Godown Street. If you know Chennai, you know how crowded and frantic Godown Street gets. It’s all about clothes and fabrics here. Our place is right in the thick of it. We spend most of our time surrounded by stacks of dresses and rolls of material. It’s a lot of lifting and moving boxes around. The street is so narrow that getting deliveries in can be a real headache sometimes. We don’t have a fancy showroom with lights and mirrors. It’s more of a functional space where we pack things up and keep track of what’s coming in. We’ve been here for quite some time, and we know the other traders on the street pretty well. It’s loud, it’s hot, and there is always someone shouting for a rickshaw to move. We just focus on getting the stock out. The fans are always running, but they don't do much against the Chennai humidity. We aren't trying to be a high-end boutique. We just sell dresses to people who need them. Most of our day is spent counting inventory or talking to customers who squeeze into the shop. It’s honest work, and it keeps us on our feet from the moment we open the shutters until we lock up at night. The smell of new cloth is everywhere here, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
