Jothuma Fashions

We are over in Thiruvanmiyur at L-25 on 3rd West Street in Kamaraj Nagar. It’s a nice enough neighborhood, fairly close to the beach side so we get a bit of a breeze sometimes. Jothuma Fashions is just a small house that we use for the business. It’s got that old Chennai feel to it. You have to look for the number on the gate because the trees sometimes hide the sign. We’ve been here for several years now. The rooms are filled with rolls of cloth and different threads. It’s not very big, so we have to be careful where we step when we have a lot of work going on. The street is usually quiet, except for the occasional delivery van or the vegetable seller going by. We like it this way because it lets us focus on the sewing. My aunt used to help out here, and now we have a couple of workers from the nearby streets who come in to help with the finishing touches. We use the back room for the cutting and the front part for the machines. It’s a bit of a squeeze but it works for us. We don't have a fancy showroom with lights, just a regular space where we get things done. Most of our day is spent at the tables, measuring and cutting until the light fades.
