Imperial Garments Factory

Our factory is out in the Sipcot Apparel Park at Irungattukottai. We are at plot K-60. Being in an industrial area like this is different from being in the middle of the city. There is more space, but it’s a long commute for some of us. Imperial Garments Factory is a place where we take our work seriously. It is a large shed-like structure where we have all our production lines set up. We handle quite a bit of volume compared to the smaller shops. The floors are concrete and the ceilings are high to keep things a bit cooler, though it still gets plenty warm in the summer months. We have people doing everything from cutting and sewing to quality checks and packing. It’s a lot of coordination to make sure no one is waiting on the previous step. We don't have much time for fluff or fancy talk. We just focus on the production numbers and making sure the garments are made correctly. The industrial park is full of other factories too, so there is always a lot of trucks and movement around. It isn't a pretty place, but it is where the work happens. We just try to keep the machines running and the orders moving out to the shipping area. It’s a busy life, but it keeps us all going. We eat our lunch together in the canteen area and then get right back to the machines.
