Hotel Premier

Hotel Premier is at 22 Poonamallee High Road. If you know Chennai, you know this road is one of the busiest ones in the whole city. It’s always hot here, and the traffic noise is something you just get used to after a few days. We are at the 600003 pincode area, which is pretty central. The building is an older style, not like these new glass towers they are putting up everywhere now. We have high ceilings and thick walls that help a bit with the heat. Our staff is mostly local people who have lived in Chennai their whole lives. We open the doors early in the morning to let the air move through, though by noon we have to shut the windows against the dust from the road. We don't have a big lobby with fancy fountains or anything like that. There’s a small desk where we check people in and a place to leave bags. The rooms are plain but they have beds and fans that work hard. We spend a lot of our time fixing things that break because the salt in the air from the coast makes everything rust faster. It’s a lot of work keeping an old place going on such a main road, but we stay busy. We see all kinds of people, from laborers to small business owners who come to the city for a few days of work. It is just a regular life here on the high road.
