Hb Fashion is tucked away on Malayappan Street in the Mannady area. If you’ve ever been to Mannady, you know how these streets are. They’re narrow and always crowded with people and scooters. Our shop is right in the middle of all that. We sell different kinds of clothes, mostly whatever is in demand at the time. It’s a small space, so we have to use every inch of the walls to hang things up. Sometimes the bags are piled up on the floor when we get new stock from the wholesalers. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people come in at once, but we make it work. I usually spend my mornings checking what needs to be folded again. My cousin helps out on the weekends when it gets really busy. Mannady is a place where you can find almost anything if you look hard enough, and we’ve been part of this street for a good few years now. The light inside isn’t the brightest, but we know where everything is kept. It’s just a local business, nothing like those big malls you see in the city center. We close up around eight usually, unless there’s someone still looking around. It’s a lot of work but it keeps us busy and we like the people who stop by to chat. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the door, but we fixed that mostly. It's just a regular life here on Malayappan Street every single day.
