Government Higher Secondary School Rghuraj Shahdol

This school is tucked away in Sakthi Nagar Extension, which is part of the Perungalathur area in Chennai. If you're looking for us, we are at 13/6, not too far from the main parts of the neighborhood. The name on the board says Rghuraj Shahdol, but we've been operating right here for the local kids for a long time. It’s a government secondary school, so it’s mostly about getting the kids through their exams and making sure they have a place to study every day. The classrooms are basic, with wooden desks and blackboards that have seen better days. In the summer, it gets quite hot, so the fans are always going full speed. You’ll see the kids running around the grounds during the lunch hour, mostly playing with whatever they can find. The teachers usually sit in the staff room and grade papers when they aren't in front of a class. It’s a simple setup. We don’t have much in the way of extra bells and whistles. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, except when school lets out and everyone heads home at the same time. We’ve seen a lot of changes in Perungalathur over the years, with more buildings going up, but the school stays pretty much the same. It’s just a place where the local families send their children to learn the basics and hopefully grow up to be decent people.
