Goverment Higher Secondary School

Goverment Higher Secondary School is located at No 63, Ormes Road in Kilpauk. This is a pretty central part of Chennai, and Ormes Road is usually packed with people going about their business. The school is quite large because we handle the higher secondary levels, so we have a lot of older students hanging around the entrance. The building itself is quite old and has a lot of character, with high ceilings and thick walls. It gets very hot in the summer, but that’s just how it is in this city. We have several blocks for different subjects. The hallways are often filled with the sound of shuffling feet and teachers calling for order. We deal with a lot of paperwork because of the board exams and all the official records we have to maintain for the government. The principal’s office is at the front, and there’s usually a line of people waiting to get something signed. We have a small canteen area where students can get a snack, though most bring their own food. The trees in the courtyard provide some shade, which is where everyone gathers during the lunch hour. It’s a noisy, hectic, and very real place to work. We don't have any shiny brochures, just the daily grind of keeping the school running for the hundreds of kids who study here every single year of their young lives in this part of town.
