We are located on Dhandapani Street, right behind the Thirupathi Devastanam in T Nagar. This part of town is always crowded with people heading to the temple. Our shop at number 18 is mostly full of heavy sacks of cement and construction materials. It’s a dusty job, and there’s no getting around that. Every morning starts with unloading the trucks that bring in the new stock. We have to move the bags around quite a bit to keep things organized. My back usually aches by the end of the week, but that’s the nature of selling cement. We deal with local builders and homeowners who are doing small repairs or building something new. It’s not a glamorous business. The walls are stained with gray dust and the floor is never really clean for long. We’ve been in T Nagar for years and know most of the regulars. Sometimes the narrow street makes it hard for the delivery trucks to park, which causes a bit of a headache with the traffic. We just try to get the orders loaded as fast as we can. It’s a straightforward operation. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just the physical shop where people come to talk about what they need for their site. The fans in the shop mostly just move the dust around, but they help a little when it gets humid. It’s a lot of physical labor, but someone has to provide the materials for all the new homes.
