Started at Bharathiyar Salai. It's a busy road in Madipakkam. The shop is at number 4. We spend a lot of time here. People walking to the Siva-Vishnu Temple often stop by. Sometimes they just look at what we have on the shelves. It’s not a huge place, but it gets the job done. We deal with curtains, maybe some wall stuff. Most days it’s just us and the sounds of the street outside. The morning starts with opening the shutters. There's dust sometimes because of the traffic. Mahalakshmi Nagar has changed over the years. We remember when there were fewer buildings. Now it's packed. Customers come in with photos on their phones. They want something for their living room. We look through the catalogs together. It takes time. We don't rush. If someone wants a specific color, we try to find it. Sometimes the tea guy comes by around eleven. It's a regular routine. Nothing fancy. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. The temple bells ring in the evening. It’s a good marker for when we should start wrapping up. We usually close late if someone is still browsing. It’s just how it goes here in Chennai. The heat is something else in the summer, but the fan keeps us going. Madipakkam is our home. We know the neighbors. We know the shopkeepers nearby. It’s a community. We just do our work and go home.
