Fuzail Leathers

Periamet is the old soul of Chennai's leather business. Our office, Fuzail Leathers, is on the 1st floor of 19, E.K. Guru Street. It’s a tight space, and the building is quite old. We’ve been here long enough that we don’t even notice the noise from the street anymore. Inside, it’s mostly shelves filled with leather skins of different colors and textures. We spend our time grading the leather and talking to buyers who come in from all over. It’s a very hands-on job. You have to feel the leather to know if it’s good. We aren't big on technology; we still do a lot of things the old-fashioned way with ledgers and handwritten notes. The humidity in Chennai can be a bit much, especially in this part of town where the buildings are so close together. We have a small crew, and we mostly just get on with it. There’s no corporate hierarchy here. We all drink tea from the same place and complain about the same traffic. It’s a simple operation, really. We buy leather, we check it, and we sell it. There isn't much more to it than that. We just try to stay fair and keep our regulars happy so we can keep the lights on for another year. It’s a lot of dusty work and checking the same invoices over and over.
