We've been at this spot on Periyar Evr High Road for a long time now. Most people still get a bit confused between the new number 162 and the old 936, but it’s the same building we’ve always been in. It gets pretty loud outside with all the traffic coming through, but inside the workshop, it's mostly just the sound of the machines and people talking over their tea. Farida Leatherware isn't a big flashy place. We just focus on getting the leather work done. Some days are busier than others, especially when a big shipment comes in and we have to move all the heavy hides around. The guys here know their way around a piece of leather, having spent years cutting and stitching. You can usually smell the materials the moment you walk through the door. It’s a heavy, earthy scent that stays on your clothes long after you leave. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anything like that. It’s a practical space where people come to work. Sometimes the rain makes the road outside a real mess, but we keep things moving inside regardless. It’s just how it is here. We handle the paperwork in the small office area near the front, while the main work happens in the back. It isn't always quiet or perfectly organized, but the work gets finished. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years, but our corner of the road stays pretty much the same day in and day out.
