Eagle Leather Industries is tucked away on Vaidyanathan Street in Tondiarpet. It’s not the easiest place to find if you aren't from around here, but the locals know us. We’ve been working with leather for a long time, and the smell of the shop is something you never really forget. It’s just part of the air here. No 1/5 is a busy little spot. We spend most of our time dealing with raw hides and the processes that go along with them. It’s hard work and your hands get stained, but it’s what we know. There are stacks of material piled up against the walls and sometimes it feels a bit cramped, but we make it work. The street outside is always moving, people going to work or heading towards the main road. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. Usually, people find us by word of mouth or because they’ve been coming here for a generation. Sometimes the rain makes the street a bit messy, but we keep the doors open and the work moving. It's a simple setup. We handle the leather, check the pieces, and send them out. We don’t talk much about goals or visions; we just focus on the batch in front of us. If you come by, you’ll likely see us drinking tea in the afternoon while we wait for a delivery truck to show up. It's just life in Tondiarpet, working day by day.
