Our shop is tucked away on the first floor at No. 12 Umpherson Street. If you know the Broadway area, you know how crowded it gets around here. Being so close to the Madras High Court means there is always a lot of noise and people rushing about. You have to walk up the stairs to find us. The building is older, so the steps are a bit narrow, but it’s okay once you get inside. We have been here for a while now. The light comes in through the window overlooking the street in the afternoons. It’s mostly just us working with fabrics and thread all day. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, and we just sit and wait or talk until it comes back on. Dealing with the traffic on Broadway is the hardest part of the day, especially when we are trying to get supplies in. Most of our neighbors are also doing some kind of trade or legal work because of the court. We don't have a big lobby or fancy chairs, just the tables where we cut the cloth and the machines. It’s a bit cramped when we have a lot of stock piled up, but we manage. My brother usually handles the deliveries if someone can't make it up the stairs. The goal is just to get the work done and go home before the evening rush becomes too much.
