Creative Leather Design

Mugalivakkam is a bit away from the main city center, but it’s growing fast. Creative Leather Design is located at Plot No. 6, Door No. 1/583 in Kumudam Nagar. It’s a residential-looking area that has become more commercial over the years. We use the ground floor for our design work and assembly. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when we have a lot of leather sheets delivered, but we make it work. We spend a lot of time drawing out patterns on paper before we even touch the leather. The humidity here in Chennai can be tough on the materials, so we have to be careful how we store everything. We’re just a small group of people who like working with our hands. You won't find any corporate slogans on our walls. We just have calendars and maybe a few photos of our families. Most of our day is spent at the stitching machines or gluing linings. It’s dusty work, and the glue can be a bit strong-smelling, so we keep the windows open when we can. We just focus on making things that are sturdy and look decent. It’s a quiet life for the most part, just focusing on the next bag or wallet we have to finish. We don't rush, because mistakes with leather are hard to fix once you've made a hole.
