Bharath Leather

You can find Bharath Leather at No. 9-A Lourdhu Madha Street in Nagalkeni. This neighborhood is famous for leather, so we fit right in. Our street is narrow and always has some kind of activity going on. We are a small unit. We focus on getting the leather work done right. The building isn't anything special to look at. It’s just a practical space with benches and tools. We spend our days cutting and treating leather. It’s a hands-on job. My hands are usually stained from the dyes we use. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We just use big ceiling fans to keep the air moving. Nagalkeni is a busy place with a lot of trucks carrying raw materials. Sometimes the noise is a bit much, but we don't mind it. We’ve been at this location for a long time. Our neighbors are also in the leather trade, so we often borrow things from each other. It’s a close-knit community here. We don't have a big mission statement or anything. We just want to finish our work and get paid. It’s honest labor. The light coming through the front door is usually enough to work by during the day. We close up when it gets dark and start again the next morning. It’s a simple way to live and work. We are just local people making leather goods for whoever needs them.
