About Mural Artist Richard – Art & Craft in Chennai
I'm Richard, and I do mural work here in Choolaimedu. My place is at 50/17 Sherfudden Street. I've been doing this for a while now. Sometimes people ask me how I started, but I just liked drawing on big walls. It's different from a small paper. You have to stand back a lot to see if it looks right. I spend most of my days with paint on my hands. The street here is usually busy, but inside my workspace, it's just me and the brushes. Choolaimedu has its own vibe, and being based on Sherfudden Street makes it easy for people to find me if they need something painted. I don't use fancy tools, just the usual stuff you'd find in a hardware shop plus some better colors for the finish. It gets hot sometimes working outdoors, but that’s part of the job. I don't have a big team or anything, just a few hands when the wall is really large. Most of the time, I'm just looking at a blank space and figuring out where the first line goes. It's hard work on the back and neck, but seeing the colors come together makes it okay. People stop by and chat while I'm working, which is nice. If you are walking down Sherfudden Street, you might see some of my sketches lying around. I keep things simple and try to get the job done without too much fuss. That’s pretty much how it goes here. I usually have tea in the afternoon and get back to it. It is a slow process, but I don't rush things.
