Balaji Leathers

Balaji Leathers is located at number 5 on Nelluchaladi Street in Choolai. It is an old part of town with a lot of history and narrow streets that can be a bit tricky to navigate if you are driving a big car. We have been working out of this small building for quite some time now. The smell of leather is the first thing you notice when you walk inside. We have various hides stacked up against the walls and tools spread out across the heavy wooden tables. It is a very manual process here, lots of cutting and measuring by hand. The building is a bit dim inside, but we have some good lamps over the workstations so we can see what we are doing with the smaller pieces. Choolai is a busy place, and there is always something going on right outside our door. We do not have a fancy website or a glossy catalog to show people. We just show them what we are working on when they stop by the shop. Sometimes the neighborhood gets flooded if there is a heavy rain, but we just put some planks down and keep going. We are not a big corporation, just a local spot where we take our time with the materials. Most of the people who work here have lived in this area their whole lives. It is a simple, honest way to make a living and we are happy with it.
