Chank Lungi Company

Chank Lungi Company has been operating out of 190 Thambu Chetty Street for a long time. We have P. O. Box No. 81 too, for all the mail that comes in from different places. This street is an old part of town and it has a lot of history. The building is old too, with high ceilings and thick walls that keep it a bit cooler. We specialize in lungis, which is what we’ve always done. It’s a traditional business and we don't see a reason to change much. The office is usually filled with the smell of cotton and maybe some old paper. We have some heavy wooden desks that have been here since the start. It’s not the most modern setup, but it works for us. We spend our days coordinating with weavers and checking the quality of the cloth. It’s important that the lungis are right before they go out. We don't use any fancy sales tactics or posters. People know the name Chank Lungi and they know where Thambu Chetty Street is. Sometimes the street gets blocked with deliveries and traffic, and it can be a bit of a mess. We just take it in stride. It’s part of being in this area. We have some employees who have been with us for decades now. We are more like a family than a company. We just keep doing what we know how to do, day in and day out, every single year.
