C D Sudarshan is located right on Mint Street, at No. 72 or New No. 144 if you’re looking at the updated numbers. We are quite close to the Apollo City Centre in Sowcarpet. If you know Sowcarpet, you know how narrow and packed the streets are. It’s a historic area and very busy from morning until late at night. We’ve been here for a long time. Our shop isn't very large, but we make use of every inch of space we have available. There are stacks of things everywhere you look. We spend a lot of time talking to people who walk in off the street. It’s a community where everyone knows everyone else’s business. We don't use any modern marketing tricks; people just know where we are and what we do. Sometimes the traffic outside makes it hard to hear ourselves think, but we manage. We handle our transactions the old-fashioned way mostly. It’s a lot of manual work and keeping track of inventory in paper ledgers. The fans stay on all day to keep the air moving in the cramped space. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who have worked together for ages. It feels more like a family than a business some days. We stay open until the street starts to quiet down in the evening and the shopkeepers start rolling down their shutters. It’s a tiring but good life.
