Bykaveri Fashion is located in Thousand Lights, which is one of those old parts of Chennai that always feels a bit chaotic. We are at Old No 3, New No 5 on College Lane, right near College Road. The building is an old one, with high ceilings and some cracks in the walls that we’ve just stopped noticing. It gets incredibly humid in this part of town, so the fans are always on full blast. Being near College Road means there are always students and people walking by, making the whole area feel very busy. Our workspace is filled with stacks of patterns and bits of thread all over the floor. We try to keep it organized, but by the end of the week, it usually looks like a mess again. We don't have a big reception area or anything like that. People just walk in through the main door and find us among the piles of fabric. Most of our day is spent looking at samples and making sure the colors are what they’re supposed to be. We have a small kettle for making coffee, and we usually share some snacks in the late afternoon. It’s a very simple way of working, without any of those big corporate rules. We’ve been in this lane for a while now, and we know most of the people working in the nearby shops. It’s just our little corner of Chennai where we get things done.
