Sri Lakshmi Apparels

Sri Lakshmi Apparels is based at No. 519 Ramakrishnan Street, which is just off P. H. Road in Arumbakkam. We’ve been in this neighborhood for a while now, and the street can get pretty crowded during the middle of the day. Our space is mostly taken up by several sewing machines and big tables for measuring out the apparel. It isn't a showroom where things are displayed on fancy mannequins; it's more of a workshop where the actual making happens. We spend our mornings sorting through the new arrivals of cloth and our afternoons trying to finish up the pending stacks of work. Sometimes the iron gets left on too long and it gets a bit stuffy inside, so we have to open the windows to catch whatever breeze comes through from the street. We aren't a corporate office with a reception desk or a waiting room. Usually, if you walk in, you’ll just see someone hunched over a machine or someone else packing cardboard boxes near the back. Arumbakkam is a busy place, and we just fit right into the daily noise of the area. We keep a small handwritten log of everything we do so we don't lose track of the pieces. It’s a lot of manual labor and staying on your feet for most of the shift. We don’t have a fancy website or anything like that, just this physical spot where we work. People come by to drop off designs or pick up finished goods. That’s just how it is.
