Ramjee Leathers & Supplies

Being out here at No. A-14 & 15 in the Sidco Industrial Estate means there is always a lot of noise. Ramjee Leathers & Supplies is right in the middle of it in the Mmda Colony area of Arumbakkam. The smell of leather is the first thing you notice when you walk into the units. It’s a heavy, earthy scent that stays on your clothes. We have stacks of hides and different supplies piled up against the walls. The machines are old but they still run fine if you treat them right. Workers are always moving around, cutting pieces or sorting through the stock. Arumbakkam gets quite hot in the summer so we keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze comes through the estate. It’s an industrial area so there are always trucks loading and unloading nearby. We don’t have a fancy front office with air conditioning. It’s a working warehouse and workshop through and through. You can hear the sounds of hammers and stitching machines from the other units nearby. We spend our days checking the quality of the leather and making sure the supplies are ready for whoever needs them. It’s physical work and your hands get dirty by the end of the shift. The Mmda Colony has its own rhythm and we are just a small part of that daily cycle.
